Cal Wickens named Empire 8 Coach of the Year
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Cal Wickens, who guided the Nazareth women's
volleyball team to the Empire 8 Conference championship in 2011,
has been named E8 Coach of the Year.
Now in his ninth season as women's coach, Wickens coached Nazareth
to weekend wins over Stevens and Elmira to lead the Golden Flyers
to their first conference title since 2006 and their first NCAA
Tournament berth since 2007.
Nazareth brings a 26-12 overall record to Clarkson this weekend to
compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Nazareth will play the
host Knights (28-8) in a first-round match in the eight-team
regional Friday at 8 p.m. Semifinal matches are Saturday at 3:30
and 6 p.m. repsectively. The regional final is Sunday at 4 p.m.
Wickens has an overall record of 202-134 (.601) and also was named
E8 Coach of the Year in 2006. Wickens led Nazareth's men's team to
the national championship last spring and was honored then as
Division III Coach of the Year.
