Elmhurst Stops Simpson & 16th-Ranked Chicago

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team,
ranked 19th in the latest AVCA poll, ran its winning streak to 12
by toppling Simpson College and 16th-ranked University of Chicago
on the second day of the Elmhurst Invitational.
ELMHURST 3, SIMPSON 0 - Elmhurst opened day two
of the tournament with a three-set sweep over Simpson College
(25-6, 25-18, 25-16).

Reynolds powered the Bluejays with 13 kills and a
match-high seven blocks. Sam
Szarmach added eight kills and eight digs. Taylor
Rasmussen added five kills and four blocks for the
Bluejays. Antonéya
Veasy Smith totaled four kills, four digs, and two blocks
while Erin
Thill led the squad in assists with 26. Perrie
Morgan registered 19 digs while Marci
Novak chipped in with 11 digs and two aces.
ELMHURST 3, CHICAGO 1 - Elmhurst improved to 25-9
overall by upending 16th-ranked University of Chicago 25-19, 26-28,
25-21, 25-21. The win avenged an early-season loss to the
Maroons.
Three Bluejays registered double figures in kills with Veasy Smith
pounding down a team-leading 14. Szarmach recorded 12 kills, seven
digs, and three aces. Wilks added 12 kills and a team-leading seven
blocks while Reynolds tottaled eight kills and four blocks. Marci
Novak added 14 digs and six blocks for the Blueajys.
Katie
Rueffer led the squad in assists with 30 while Thill
chipped in with 18 assists. Morgan finished with a team-high 25
digs in the win.
Reynolds and Szarmach were both named to the all-tournament team
for their play.
Elmhurst closes out CCIW play on Tuesday (October 25) by hosting
Illinois Wesleyan University.
