Elmhurst Falls to Seventh-Ranked Carthage in Four

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team,
ranked #24 in the latest AVCA poll, fell to 13-4 overall after
dropping a four-set match to seventh-ranked Carthage College.
Carthage (14-2, 3-0 CCIW) took the opening set 25-18 before the
Bluejays rallied in the second. Elmhurst led 24-20 in the second,
but Carthage fought off five set points before Elmhurst took the
set 28-26. Carthage led 14-13 in the third set, but used an 11-5
run to pull away and take the set 25-18. Elmhurst trailed by six
early in the fourth set, but the Bluejays narrowed Carthage's lead
down to just a point at 13-14, but the Lady Reds answered back,
winning five straight points to take a six-point advantage.
Carthage closed out the set and the match, winning 25-18, 26-28,
25-18, 25-19.

Reynolds led the Bluejays' offense in the loss, totaling
13 kills and three blocks. Sam
Szarmach and Antonéya
Veasy Smith totaled 11 kills apiece for Elmhurst. Erin
Thill totaled a team-leading 29 assists while Perrie
Morgan led the squad in digs with 24. Hannah
Lessen chipped in with 14 digs while Kaitlyn
Wilks added a team-leading seven blocks.
Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Tuesday, October 4.
