Emory's Jenny McDowell Notches 500th Career Win -- Eagles' Volleyball Rack Up Two More Wins
It was a memorable day for Emory head volleyball coach Jenny
McDowell as she posted her 500th career win Saturday
afternoon after the Eagles came away with a pair of wins.
Emory opened the day with a 3-0 decision (25-18, 25-15, 25-19) over
Lynchburg before closing out a 4-0 weekend with an impressive 3-0
verdict over Maryville (25-14, 25-15, 25-6). Emory has won
its last 23 matches and stands 24-1 on the year.
Against Lynchburg, the Eagles posted a .276 hitting percentage
(37-13—87) compared to the Hornets' mark of .011
(26-25—94). The Eagles totaled a 37-32 advantage in
digs and registered a 10-2 bulge in total blocks. Senior Amelia
McCall and junior Breanah
Bourque tied for match honors with 12 kills with Bourque
registering an impressive .625 attacking percentage
(12-2—16). Junior Alex
Duhl was a solid defensive presence at the net with six (2-4)
total blocks while Bourque contributed four (2-2) blocks.
With McDowell perched at 499 victories, the Eagles made sure that
she brought home No. 500 with an impressive offensive display that
saw them hit .412 (41-8—80). Bourque dominated play,
coming up with 12 terminations and just one error in 13 attempts
for an .846 hitting percentage. In addition, she topped all
performers with seven total blocks (3-4). McCall hit a solid
.391 (10-1—23) with her kills total her eighth double-figure
effort in the last nine outings. McCall also led all players
with nine digs. Also playing key roles in the win were senior
Jessica
McAlvany with eight kills and freshman Dana
Holt with four service aces.
The 23 consecutive wins ties the1994 teams for the school
record. Emory has also captured its last 21 home matches and
claims a 58-3 won-lost slate in games played at the Woodruff PE
Center since 2008.
