Maryville Claims GSAC Tournament Title

DEMOREST, Ga.- After capturing the Great South Athletic Conference regular season championship, the Maryville Scots volleyball team reclaimed the GSAC tournament championship against last year's winners, the Piedmont Lions in straight sets, 3-0.

Leading the charge for the Scots is reigning GSAC Player of the Year Kristin Findley. Her outstanding play in over the two day tournament helped lead the way for Maryville.

In front of a packed crowd, the two squads went back and forth until the Scots began to pull away on costly errors by Piedmont. Leading 13-5, Maryville looked poised to cruise through the first set but the Lions had other ideas battling back within two to make it 19-17. The Scots regained their composure and closed out the first set on a kill by Findley to take it, 25-18.

Opening up the second set on a 6-1 run, Maryville looked cool and collected. They continued their run collecting four straight points. Piedmont tried to break it up on great play by Hallye Jerkins but the Scots were too much and finished the set, 25-12 to lead 2-0.

Looking almost identical to the second set, Maryville dominated the third set on solid performances from Findley and teammate Katherine Nadler. The Scots took the lead to start the set and never looked back, winning the third set 25-12 and grabbing the GSAC tournament championship in straight sets.

After the match, Maryville was awarded the tournament championship trophy and Katherine Nadler was awarded Tournament MVP for her outstanding play over the weekend. The Scots now wait to find out their fate in the NCAA tournament.
