Illinois College Names Rohn New Volleyball Coach
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Illinois College named Rachel Rohn
its new head volleyball coach on Wednesday. Rohn, a 2007 graduate
of Illinois College and former member of the school’s
volleyball and track and field teams, already serves as an
assistant track and field coach and the athletic department’s
liaison to the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
“This program has been my heart and soul ever since I came
here as a freshman,” Rohn said. “I’ve always
wanted to be a head volleyball coach and I’m ready for the
challenge.”
A graduate of Shelbyville High School, Rohn has coached at
Illinois College since 2008. She has served as an assistant coach
for the school’s volleyball and track and field teams, in
addition to responsibilities that included recruiting
student-athletes, coordinating events and providing instruction at
summer camps.
“We are delighted to have the excitement and experience of a
young coach with Rachel Rohn’s background,” said
Illinois College Athletic Director Gale Vaughn. “Her passion
to lead the Illinois College volleyball program will make her a
great addition to the Illinois College athletic
department.”
Rohn served as an assistant volleyball and softball coach at
Millikin University during the 2007-2008 school year. She also
served as head volleyball coach at Franklin Junior High School
during the 2006-2007 school year.
Rohn graduated from Illinois College in 2007 with a degree in
sports management. She recently completed work on a master’s
degree in sports coaching and fitness from the United States Sports
Academy.
The Illinois College volleyball team posted a record of 7-18
during the 2010 season. The Lady Blues were 2-7 in Midwest
Conference play.
“We have some talented girls in the program and I look
forward to the recruiting aspect of being a head coach, too,”
Rohn said. “But we have the talent right now to compete in
the Midwest Conference.”
