Juniata WVB downs Dickinson and St. Mary's to open Days Inn Blue Jay Classic
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Juniata College women's volleyball won
back-to-back matches on Friday to open play at the 2011
Elizabethtown College Days Inn Blue Jay Classic, defeating
Dickinson College and St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Juniata (8-4) opened with a 3-0 win over Dickinson, defeating the
Red Devils by set scores of 25-8, 25-14, and 25-20. The Eagles
followed up with another 3-0 win over St. Mary's, winning by set
scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22.
Juniata dominated its match against Dickinson, hitting .376 while
holding the Red Devils to a .122 attack percentage. Setter Courtney
Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) efficiently ran the Juniata
offense behind her 32-assist performance, also recording seven
digs.
Freshman pin hitter Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) finished
with a team-high seven kills against two errors on 12 swings, and
tacked on four service aces to tally 11.0 points on the night.
Freshman opposite Cat Scholl (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's
Catholic), freshman middle Kelci Scannapieco, and sophomore outside
hitter Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) each charted
five kills.
Libero Libby Morrison (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School)
sprawled for 14 digs, pacing Juniata to 39 digs on the night.
Dickinson (2-9) was led offensively by Liz Norris with nine kills
on 24 swings, while Avery Zuvic had six kills.
Against St. Mary's, junior middle Ashley Schnader (Reinholds,
Pa./Garden Spot) and Wiegand paced the attack with nine kills each,
while Kepler tallied eight in the three-set victory. Wiegand also
served up a pair of aces on the Seahawks, while Kepler added three
block assists.
Morrison turned up 25 digs for Juniata, while Greenberg had 10
digs to go with her 38 assists.
Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) had a pair of block
assists for the Eagles.
Juniata completes play at the Blue Jay Classic on Saturday, when
it faces Haverford College at 10:00 a.m., followed by the host Blue
Jays at 12:00 p.m.
