Luther Names Danielle Kohut Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Luther College Director of Athletics Joe Thompson has announced that Danielle Kohut has accepted the position of head volleyball Coach.
Coach Kohut (pronounced Ka-Hoot) takes over the Luther volleyball program after serving the past two years as a graduate assistant volleyball coach at NCAA II St. Cloud State University, Minn.
Before joining the Husky coaching staff, she served as an assistant coach at Williston State College, N.D., where she helped lead the Tetons to two conference championships, two regional tournament appearances and one trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament.
The Hafford, Saskatchewan native, began her collegiate career at Williston State College where she helped lead the team to a conference championship and was named MVP as the team’s starting setter her sophomore year. She then transferred to St. Cloud State University where she was a defensive specialist and setter on the Husky volleyball squad from 2003-05.
"First of all, I would like to thank Joe Thompson and President Torgerson for the opportunity to be the head volleyball coach at Luther College,” stated Kohut. “I am very excited to be a part of the Luther College volleyball program and I look forward to the challenges of coaching and competing in the well respected Iowa Conference and leading the team to become a consistent challenger for the league title.”
" We are excited to have Danielle serve as the new volleyball coach at Luther College,” stated Thompson. “She brings great enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge to our volleyball program and she will be a wonderful mentor to our student-athletes. We are excited to have Danielle join the Luther College community and look forward to the leadership she will afford the volleyball program.”
With the appointment, Kohut becomes the fifth head volleyball coach in the 36-year history of the program.
