Maryville Volleyball Nabs Great South Regular Season Title

DECATUR, Ga.- After landing in the number one spot in the volleyball preseason poll, the Maryville Scots volleyball team has gone a perfect 8-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference and are the regular season conference champions. Led by senior Kristin Findley, the Scots look for their first conference tournament win since 2009.

During the regular season, Maryville dominated conference opponents, winning 24 out of 26 sets that were played. Findley currently leads the conference in hitting percentage (.275) and is tied with Agnes Scott's Morgan Bender with average kills per game at 3.92. As a team, the Scots conquered three of the top categories such as hitting percentage, assists and kills. In the month of September, Maryville only had one loss which was a tournament game against Washington & Lee.

This season brought a milestone for Maryville head coach Kandis Schram. During a home contest on Sept. 15, Schram received her 600th career coaching victory as the Scots swept visiting Covenant in straight sets, 3-0. During her time at the helm of the Scots, she has been to seven NCAA Tournaments (1993, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009) and won eight GSAC Championships (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).

Finishing up the season with three non-conference games, the Scots will then look ahead to the GSAC Conference Tournament on Friday- Saturday Nov. 4-5. As the No. 1 seed, they receive a bye for the first round of play. They hit the court at 6pm on Friday to play the winner of the quarterfinal between Agnes Scott and Huntingdon.
