NYU Finishes Sixth at UAA Championship

The New York University women's volleyball team finished in sixth
place at the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA)
Championship, which was hosted by NYU at the Jerome S. Coles Sports
Center in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5.
The fifth-seeded Violets (20-16, 3-7) were defeated by
sixth-seeded University of Rochester (21-15, 4-6) in the
Fifth-Place Match on Saturday in four sets (20-25, 25-21, 25-19,
25-21).
Rochester last beat NYU in 1997.
Sarah
Buckingham led the Violet offense with a match-high 16
kills and just three errors for a .342 hitting percentage. She
added eight digs on defense.
“Sarah had a good match,” said NYU head coach Jolie
Ward. “She finished strong yesterday, and it was
nice to see her apply that to today's match.”
Kaylee
Schanda led all players with 24 digs. Hope
Bogle dished out 37 assists from the setter position.
Kelly Mulrey paced the Yellowjackets with 15 kills and 15 digs.
Casey Larsen added 11 kills and 14 digs.
Rochester's Xiaoyi Li and Alma Guevara each totaled nine blocks,
and Li added 39 assists.
The
Violets went 1-1 on the first day of competition at the UAA
Championship, falling to #4-seed Case Western Reserve University in
five sets in the quarterfinals but recovering to beat #8-seed
Brandeis University in three in the consolation semifinals.
