Smith Resigns as Northland College Volleyball Coach
Northland College Director of Athletics Steve Wammer announced today that head Volleyball Coach Heidi Smith has resigned in order to accept a similar position at St. Cloud Technical and Community in St. Cloud, Minnesota where she currently resides. Smith coached two seasons at Northland.
“Heidi came in and did a great job in her two seasons here,” commented Wammer. “taking over the program only a week before practice was to begin was a difficult situation that she handled well.”
Smith took over the Northland College program in 2009 having previously served as an assistant at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Jospeh, Minnesota.
“"I would like to thank Coach Wammer and Northland for giving me the opportunity to become a Head Coach. " Smith commented, "Although I am excited for the opportunity to be moving home, Northland will always be a special place to me. I would also like to thank the players in the LumberJill program the past two seasons, any success I have had is a direct result of their hard work and dedication.”
A national search for a new coach will begin immediately according to Wammer. “We are confident that we will bring an outstanding coach to Northland to lead our volleyball program.”
