Rob Mullowney named Head Coach of Roger Williams Women's Volleyball

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Athletic Department is pleased to announce Rob Mullowney as the Head Coach of the RWU Women's Volleyball team.

Mullowney comes to Roger Williams after spending the past four seasons as head coach at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he compiled a 94-34 record during his tenure. This past fall, he guided the Bears to the 2010 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Coincidentally, the Bears advanced to the second round via a 3-1 win over the Hawks in the opening round.

In addition to winning the conference championship, Mullowney had multiple players receive impressive accolades, including a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, two CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selections, and the 2010 American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) New England Regional Rookie of the Year. This past February, he was honored by the AVCA as a Thirty Under 30 Head Coach, which recognizes up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game.

Mullowney also spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Men's Volleyball program at Wentworth Institute of Technology. In only two seasons, Mullowney became the program's winningest coach with 36 victories. In 2011, the team won a program-record 20 matches and reached the postseason for the first team since 2001. Nationally, the Leopards ranked second in the NCAA in aces per set (2.41) and sixth in blocks (2.78) in 2010.

Prior to his posts at Coast Guard and Wentworth, Mullowney helped lead the Men's Volleyball program at Newbury College to its first 10-win season in school history in 2007. He also spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Smith College, where the team won the NEWMAC Championship in 2005.

Mullowney is a 2005 graduate of Haverford College where he was a four-year captain and two-year coach of Haverford Men's Club Volleyball. He also spent two years on the Men's Soccer team where he was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. He received his Master of Science, Exercise and Sport Studies in 2007 from Smith College.

Mullowney will also serve as the Assistant Athletic Communications Director of the Athletic Department. He will officially begin his duties on August 1 and will look to guide Roger Williams to its third consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
