NYU-Poly Claims Third Consecutive Skyline Women's Volleyball Championship

Championship Bracket

NEWBURGH, NY - For the third straight year, the NYU-Poly women's volleyball team has won the Skyline Conference Championship and the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

This time, it wouldn't be easy as the Lady Jays had to rally from a 2-1 deficit against the host and top-seeded  Mount Saint Mary Lady Knights on their home court. But, behind the efforts of tournament MVP Alexis Walker, No. 3 NYU-Poly won the fourth and fifth sets to secure the three-peat.

In the semifinal, NYU-Poly avenged a regular season 3-2 loss with a quick 3-0 sweep of No. 2 St. Joseph's-L.I. by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-19. The win set up a repeat of last year's championship, as the Mount disposed of No. 5 Farmingdale in the first semifinal.

Walker, a senior, led the Lady Jays on the day recording 17 kills, including 10 in the final. But the stat of the day was her 12 total blocks, with seven coming in the championship match.

Fellow senior Victoria Kalvert had a strong day on the offensive side, racking up eight kills in the semis and a team-high 14 in the finals. She also led the way on the floor tallying a game-high 28 digs against the Mount.

Junior Shelby Bruns added 11 kills and 10 digs for NYU-Poly in the championship, while junior Corey Loupee  game-high 46 assists against Mount to go along with 18 against St. Joseph's.

NYU-Poly (22-14) will now await its site and opponent in the upcoming Regional portion of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
