DeHaven Named New Head Coach at Stevens
HOBOKEN, N.J. (June 13, 2012) – On June
13, the Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics
announced the hiring of Glenn DeHaven as the new
women’s volleyball head coach for the upcoming 2012-13
season. DeHaven, formerly an assistant at Transylvania University,
will be the fourth coach in the program’s 26-year history on
Castle Point. The Ducks are coming off a 15-23 season last year and
will look to rebound from their first sub-.500 record since
2001.
“I want to thank Director of Athletics Russell
Rogers for giving me this opportunity to lead the women's
volleyball program at Stevens,” said DeHaven. “Between
the unbelievable academic offerings, beautiful facilities and
support for athletics, I believe many key pieces are in place to
help Stevens compete at the national level.”
DeHaven takes over the helm at Stevens after spending the last two
seasons in Lexington, Ky. at Transylvania. While at Transylvania,
DeHaven helped guide the Pioneers to back-to-back regular season
Heartland Conference championships and a 45-19 overall mark,
including 26 victories in 2010.
“Glenn comes to Stevens with a strong volleyball background
and his philosophy toward coaching was very much in line with what
we try to do at Stevens,” Rogers said. “He is an
outstanding fit for our women’s volleyball team and I look
forward to watching the progress of our student-athletes both on
and off the court under Glenn’s leadership.”
Before his stint at Transylvania, DeHaven coached for three
seasons at his alma mater, Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. as a
men’s assistant from 2008-10. In 2009, the Eagles claimed the
Molten National Championship and three student-athletes earned
All-America honors while DeHaven was on the sidelines.
As a student-athlete at Juniata, DeHaven was a four-year starter
from 2003-07 and was on four Molten National Championship teams,
while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in sports
management.
DeHaven has also served as head coach for two club teams
(Lexington United 18 Elite and Velocity 18’s) while in
Kentucky and the girls varsity team at Huntingdon Area High School
in Pennsylvania. He has also served as an evaluator for USA
Volleyball in 2009 and 2010, as well as an assistant tournament
director for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region in 2008.
