The Comets (now 6-3, 3-1 ASC) dropped the opening set, 25-21, as UT-Tyler got five kills from Madison Kosir while UTD hit just .096 as a team. The Comets made three service errors and managed just 12 digs, compared to 26 by the Patriots, to fall in an early hole.
The second set was a different story as UT hit .324 as a team, collecting 15 kills to just four errors, and amassing six total blocks in a 25-18 win. Williams led the charge with four kills and five of her 11 blocks in the set to knot the match, 1-1. UT-Tyler hit .000 for the set, having just nine kills with nine errors.
The momentum swayed back to UT-Tyler's direction in the third set as the Patriots (9-4, 3-1 ASC) took a 2-1 advantage in the match with a 25-18 win. Neither offensive seemed to find much success as the two teams combined for 16 errors, but UT-Tyler hit .167 as a team, compared to .056 by the Comets, in the stanza.
In the fourth set, the young Comets grew up. Trailing 15-11 midway through the set, UTD started a charge that proved to be the turning point in the match. The Comets rolled off an 8-2 run to grab a 19-17 lead after a Patriot error. UT Dallas would not trail again in the fourth or fifth set as the Comets defended home court. Hillary Baugh led UTD with six kills in the set while Hilzendager added four kills as the Comets hit .250 as a team, compared to .114 by the Patriots.
UTD scored the opening two points of the deciding stanza on Patriot attacking errors and never looked back, leading by as many as five points, 13-8, before a late rally by UT-Tyler. Tabitha Terrell sparked Comets in the fifth set with three kills an a pair of blocks while Hilzendager had the final nail with a match-ending kill.
The Comets will now begin their nearly month-long road trip as they visit Centenary Friday night at 7 p.m. in Shreveport.

Texas-Tyler in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets downed UTT, 21-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Williams, a native of San Marcos, led
three Comets in double-digit kills as she sparked UT Dallas to a
season-high 17 total blocks in the hard-fought victory over the
Patriots. She also added six digs and a service ace. Taylour
Toso also had 13 kills while junior Dana
Hilzendager added 11 kills. In addition, Toso had eight
blocks while Tabitha
Terrell and Cassandra
Duran
each added six blocks.
