Katie Pommier Named Assistant Coach at Chicago

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Director of Athletics Tom Weingartner has appointed Katie Pommier as assistant volleyball coach.

Pommier joins Head Volleyball Coach Vanessa Walby's staff after serving as co-director and coach of the Competitive Edge Volleyball Club in Bourbonnais and as tournament director for the Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Aurora. She has held both positions since the summer of 2009.

Pommier played three seasons as a setter and defensive specialist at NCAA Division II Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, and played one season at Division I Chicago State University. A team captain at both schools, she served on Flagler's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Pommier graduated from Flagler in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Chicago posted a 30-13 record and made its first NCAA tournament appearance this past season. The Maroons open their 2011 campaign at the Elmhurst College Invitational on Sept. 2-3.
