Two NCAA Records Set as UR Defeats Geneseo

Rochester was part of two NCAA Division III volleyball records tonight in a four set victory over SUNY Geneseo in the Carl Schrader Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets won the match, 40-42, 25-16, 25-18, 26-24. Geneseo set a single-set record with the 42 points in the first set. The previous mark was 41 points, by Washington (MO) with 41 points in 2009. Rochester had eight chances to win the opener, the last time ahead 39-38, before a service error.

Rochester broke the NCAA Division III mark for points in a four-set match using the 25-point format. The Yellowjackets had 116 points. The record was 109, established by Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2008.

Casey Larsen led the Yellowjackets with 16 kills and 22 digs. Xiaoyi Li had 38 assists, and Savannah Benton contributed 13 kills and seven blocks.

Rochester improved to 6-2.
