Suzanne Truitt has been named the head volleyball coach at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for auxiliary services and intercollegiate athletics, announced today.
Truitt previously served as head coach at fellow American Southwest Conference member East Texas Baptist where she won three conference championships and was twice named the league’s Coach of the Year.
“UT Tyler is extremely excited to have a coach of Suzanne’s caliber join our staff,” Patterson said. “We feel that she will bring a new energy to our volleyball program and enhance the University by promoting our values of academic achievement, community service and student life through athletics.”
Truitt amassed an overall record of 101-69 during her seven years at ETBU, including an 84-14 conference record, and advanced to the ASC tournament every year that she was head coach.
“I am thrilled to be a UT Tyler Patriot,” Truitt said. “This is the premier position in the American Southwest Conference and I am so appreciative of Dr. Patterson for the confidence he has already shown in me.”
She continued, “I look forward to my association with such a talented group of coaches, student-athletes, and a great University.”
Truitt has also served as a member of the NCAA South Region Ranking Committee and was the senior woman administrator at ETBU.
Becoming the fourth volleyball coach in UT Tyler history, she will take over a program that was 16-17 (8-9 ASC) in 2010.
