POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 1, 2011) – The Vassar College
women's volleyball team helped senior hitter Amy
Bavosa close out her home career in style, sweeping Kean
University 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) Tuesday night at Kenyon
Hall.
In a rescheduled Senior Day match due to Saturday's snowstorm,
Bavosa had seven kills in her final home outing. The Brewers won
the opening two sets comfortably, but found the Cougars inspired in
the third set. Kean led the final set 10-6 and had the set
tied 22-22 before the Brewers ran off the final three points for a
victory that will send the team into Friday's Liberty League
Championships with a boost of momentum..
The victory pushes Vassar to 17-12 on the season while Kean
concludes its 2011 campaign at 11-21. Vassar will next travel to
Clarkson and face the host Golden Knights in the opening match of
the Liberty League Championship at 5:00 p.m. The Brewers are the

Though swept in the match, Kean made the final set closely
contested. The Cougars led 10-6 after a Vassar setting error, but
back-to-back kills from Bavosa and freshman Clara
Cardillo put the Brewers ahead 14-12. From that point,
Kean hung tough and following a kill by Peterson, had the match
tied 22-22. A Kean attack error and kills from Koenigs and Pitre
earned the Brewers a 25-22 third set win to take the match.
The second set saw several early ties, the last coming at 11-11
following a kill down the seam by Peterson. From that point, the
Brewers inched ahead 15-11 following three straight Kean
miscues. A Vassar attack error brought the Cougars within
17-15, but that was the closest the visitors would come. The
Brewers reeled off five straight points, punctuated by a service
ace by Koenigs for a 22-15 lead. Back-to-back kills by Peterson
drew Kean within 24-20, and made the final moments interesting, but
Vassar closed out the set on a Kean service error. The
Cougars improved their hitting percentage to .286 from the opening
set, while the Brewers dipped to .300.
In the opening set, the Brewers trailed briefly, 2-0, and then
took complete control, racing out to an 18-7 lead on the strength
of a kill from Bavosa. The Brewers maintained a double digit lead
the entire set, and pushed ahead 22-12 en route to the 25-15 win.
