Warhawks Top Red Hawks 3-1
The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked twenty-second
in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, went on
the road to defeat Ripon College 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-10)
Wednesday night.

Whitewater's offensive onslaught posted double figure kills each
set in the match while the Warhawk defense kept Ripon in the single
digits for the entirety of the match. The Warhawks held the Red
Hawk hitters to just .033 hitting, forcing 24 errors and allowing
only 29 kills in the match. UW-W pounded down 61 kills and recorded
a season high 14 total blocks.
Sofia Sanchez
(Janesville/Craig) and Leanna
Lillge (Watertown) led all players at the net
on offense with 15 and 12 kills respectively. Defensively,
Ariel
Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) had six total
blocks (one solo, five assisted) which ties Ariel Freiertag's mark
from September 9 against Ohio Northern for season high, and Lillge
added five more (two solo, one assisted) in the match.
Four Warhawks posted double digits in digs including Alyssa Bauer
(Naperville, IL/Central) with 19, Sanchez with 18, Kelli
Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) with 16 and Kelsey
Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL) added 11. Setter Heidi Buss
(Cedarburg) dished out 40 assists in the match.
Whitewater will host its second invitational of the season Friday
and Saturday, September 16-17. UW-W will host St. Olaf Friday night
at 7:00 in the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena. The match has been
designated Dig Panici Night to welcome teammate Lisa
