Wartburg Splits in Opening Day of Own Invitational, Sieck Joins 1,000 Career Kill Club

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg College volleyball team (6-1
overall) split its matches in the opening day of its own
invitational Friday. The 24th ranked Knights swept No.
21 St. Olaf (4-2) 25-15, 25-22 and 26-24 before falling in five
sets to Nebraska Wesleyan (3-3) 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 23-25 and 6-15
in the nightcap.
In the third set, junior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) became the newest member of Wartburg’s 1,000 career kill club and is the tenth member to accomplish this feat. She currently holds the No. 9 spot in this category with 1,014 kills through Friday’s matches.
Sieck led the Orange and Black with 13 kills. Sophomores Ramey Sieck (Fayette) and Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) tallied 22 and 21 set assists as they co-ran the offense.
Seniors Kamille VanNatta (Readlyn) and Nicole Beer (Boone) recorded double-digit digs with 14 and 10, respectively. VanNatta added a double-double with her team-high 23 digs.
In the final match of the night, and second five set match of the year, VanNatta and B. Sieck led the team in kills with 14 and 10, respectively. R. Sieck and Shinstine had 26 and 24 set assists, respectively.
Beer tallied 15 digs and Shinstine also had a double-double with her 10 digs.
Wartburg returns to action tomorrow when it faces No.15 Concordia-Moorhead at 11:30 a.m. and Knox at 1:30 p.m.
