Westminster Rolls Past Waynesburg in Three Sets
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - In its final home match of the regular
season, the Westminster College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0
(25-22, 25-20, 25-14) victory over Waynesburg Thursday in
Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. The Titans improved
to 19-10 overall and 11-6 in the PAC, while Waynesburg falls to
8-17 overall and 2-15 in the league.
Senior middle blocker Lindsay Speidel (Ravenna,
Ohio/Southeast) posted three blocks to move her into
eighth place on Westminster's all-time list for career blocks with
264 as she surpassed Shannon Simmons Liposky,
Westminster's current assistant coach, who had 262 blocks as a
Titan player from 1998-2001. Speidel also posted three kills in the
match.
Senior outside hitter Tara Ott (Ravenna,
Ohio/Southeast) led the Titans with seven kills to go with
six digs. Sophomore middle blocker Rebecca Riemer
(Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and sophomore outside
hitter Megan Romocean (Ravenna, Ohio/Southeast)
each logged six kills.
Senior defensive specialist Tamber Schaef (Guys Mills,
Pa./Maplewood) led the Titans with 11 digs.
Senior setter Jessie Szakacs (Youngstown,
Ohio/Liberty) distributed 22 assists to go with four
kills, nine digs and a team-high four blocks.
Mabel Culp led Waynesburg with a match-high 10 kills.
Westminster travels to Thomas More Saturday at 2 p.m. for a match
that can determine hosting rights for the first round of next
week's PAC tournament. The third and fourth place teams will host
first round matches on Tuesday while the top two seeds get byes.
Westminster entered Thursday's match in fifth place and Thomas More
was tied for third place.
