Banana Slugs sweep way to GSAC Title

Top-seeded UCSC swept through the Great South tournament to win their first conference tournament.

The Banana Slugs (11-11) hit a season-high .453 in a 3-0 sweep (12-25,13-25, 13-25) of host Agnes Scott in the final. The win cinched an automatic bid to book a return to the NCAA tournament after being left out last year despite an 18-5 record.

"It was truly a team win. They decided what they wanted to do and they did it together and at the standard that they set for themselves," said interim coach Morgan Ehritt, a starter on the last NCAA tournament team of 2013. "I am so proud of these athletes and we are so excited to see where we go for nationals."

After going back-and-forth in the first set, UCSC went on a 13-3 run to state a 16-7 lead and forcing the Scotties (12-14) to call a timeout.

Madison Waddell led UCSC with 12 kills and hit .500. Maya Lloyd had 11 kills with 10 digs.

UCSC swept Salem College in Saturday morning's semifinal, hitting .333 with 15 aces.
