Hendrix Advances to National Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Hendrix College volleyball team advance to the NCAA Division III Championship semifinals with a 25-16, 25-27, 26-24, 19-25, 15-13 victory over Bethel University (Minn.) in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Warriors (29-8), under AVCA DIII Coach of the Year Ryan Meek, will face #6 Wittenberg, who defeated #18 Clarkson in three sets, on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.

Hendrix easily took the first set, connecting on 18 kills while hitting .375. The Royals (25-10) had nine kills and only hit .103 in the first frame.

The next set was back-and-forth with 13 ties and eight lead changes. Hendrix had set point with a 24-22 lead, but Bethel answered with a 5-1 run to tie the match at a set a piece.

The Royals led 23-19 in the third, but the Warriors rallied back with a 7-1 run to take the set 26-24. Sophomore outside hitter Bradi Ryan blasted two kills during the run.

Bethel led the entire fourth set, taking it 25-19 to force the fifth and deciding game.

The Warriors jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the fifth and were up 13-6 when the Royals starting mounting a comeback. They rattled off five straight points to cut the deficit to 13-11.  A Ryan kill gave Hendrix a 14-11 advantage, but Bethel scored the next two to make it 14-13. The match ended on a Royal service error, allowing Hendrix to move on to the Final Four.

For the match, Hendrix hit .165 with 66 kills, no aces, 130 digs and 12 blocks. Bethel hit .150 with 60 kills, four aces, 128 digs and 13 blocks.

Hendrix Notes
- The match was the Warriors' 10th consecutive win, the second longest streak in program history.
- Junior MC Rogers recorded 20 kills and a season-high 24 digs, her third straight 20-20 performance.
- Ryan connected on 17 kills and sophomore right side Lauren Petrisin had 11.
- Sophomore middle blocker Sara Dyslin narrowly missed a triple-double with 10 kills, nine digs and eight blocks.
- Junior middle Samantha Stockdale hit .308 with five kills and four blocks.
- Both setters registered double-doubles. Junior Allison Gaia had 29 assists and 17 digs. Junior Holyn Duyck recorded 22 assists and a career-high 12 digs.
- Senior libero Felicia Beeman came up with 35 digs, the third time she recorded 30 or more this season.0
- Senior Jill Sikes had a season-best 19 digs.

Bethel Notes
- Carlee Hoppe led the Royals offense with 18 kills and had 20 digs.
- Tina Hoppe had 12 kills and 22 digs and Tegan LaBerge recorded 12 kills and five blocks.
- Kristin Stern had seven kills and eight blocks.
- Katie Lubben registered 37 assists and 14 digs.
- Kali Johnson led all players with 44 digs.
